Eat Sleep Drink Repeat

It has been a while since my last post, mainly because there hasn't been much going on.  For the last couple of weeks I got into the routine of: night time drinking in the hostel (normally involving goon), followed by an expensive visit to the bars in Perth, it was a late rise the next day, then off to the beach.

Now although this sounds great, after two weeks of it me and a couple of my fellow hostel-dwellers are feeling fatigued and dare I say it....a little bored.  I have now seen most the sites in Perth, I've done the beaches, the night life, got burnt/tanned, so unless I'm drinking there isn't a great deal else to do now.  I therefore feel like moving on, but having spent more money than I wanted to I'll try and get work here for a while, if I don't find anything within a couple of weeks then I'll go.

I have been told Perth is known as the 'Sleeping City' due to it's relative quietness at night.  I would have to agree with this; as soon as the sun goes down (which is about 7:30pm) the city feels very quiet, apart from ALL the crazies coming out.  You know the crazy people back home who are out and about at 3/4 in the morning, well as soon as the sun goes down in Perth they appear.  In my experience a lot of these people are groups of aborigines who spend all day drinking in the parks then come into the city fighting (mainly each other), shouting and asking people for money, but on the bright side it does sometimes offer free entertainment while eating a maccies.

The hostel I'm in is OK with the best of both worlds for me, it has a party vibe with people drinking most nights in the courtyard but my dorm room of 6 is very quiet so I can get some sleep.  There are quite a few Brits at the hostel and that's who I head into town with.

I have tried to get out and do stuff the past couple of days, including a jog in the evening.  Jogging has to be done in the evening here when it gets a bit cooler, there are loads of people out and I have found a nice path to run along which follows the Swan River, there are also exercise machines dotted about randomly in parks, pictures below.

This week so far has seen myself and most people in the hostel looking for work, some of our crew have even given up and moved on to somewhere else.  The problem is there are loads of backpackers all with the same idea.  I've been applying for any temp admin work I can find. I had an interview yesterday for an IT job at an accounts company - it is a 2 month contract doing internal support (similar to what I have done in the past), I should hear back from them in the next couple of days so fingers crossed!
