Life's a beach
New hostel is OK, there are many more people and has more of a party atmosphere than the last place, the air con is awesome and I have been able to sleep no problem. I'm booked in here until Tuesday and will extend my stay a couple of days at a time, in case I fancy a change.
Thursday I went to the Cottesloe Beach which is the nearest beach - I was able to get the train straight from Perth. The beach is awesome, I've taken a few pictures below, it's golden sand and warm seas stretching miles in both directions, temperature was a nice 32 degrees. I can gladly report there wasn't a shark/jellyfish/cone snail/stone fish in sight.
Friday I went to Fremantle which is the port about 15 miles from Perth - again easy to get to via the train (a couple of stops from Cottesloe). It has got a famous market (which was a bit underwhelming), a prison which is now a museum, a small beach, and lots of bars and cafes which I cannot afford to drink in.
Friday night I got chatting to one of the guys in my room and we decided to try out some of the infamous 'goon'. Goon is boxed wine, which is very cheap, very nasty and gets you very drunk, for £5 you can buy 4.5 litres of the stuff. Goon mixed with a couple of drinking games made a messy night where we ended up going into town.
I would say the night life here in Perth is like that of Broad Street, there are quite a few bars and clubs running down a couple of streets, they play the same music as back home, you meet the same type of people, good and bad, one difference though is the expense; booze is really expensive, you are looking at £6 a pint and £9 a jagerbomb.
I spent another day at the beach today and tonight I think a few of us are going to the casino to watch England play in the six nations (it is on at 1 am here).
As for work, I haven't started looking yet, I thought who starts looking for work in the middle of the week? No one. You have to start on a fresh week, so I'll start looking Monday.
