Winter is coming
It is Autumn now here in Perth and the weather has got distinctly cooler, it actually rained today! (the first rain I've seen since being here), the temperature on an average day is now 26/27 degrees . It may sound funny that 26 degrees feels cool, but myself and most people at the hostel have got used to 39/40 degrees the past few weeks - the other night it dropped to about 22, forcing many people to put on a hoodie.
Of course when you are in the sun it is still nice and I managed to get to Cottesloe the beach on Saturday. They had some 'structural art' down there, including a giant bag of goon! A picture of it is below.
On Sunday I went to Heirisson island with a few people from the hostel, it is just down the road (about 30 minutes walk). The reason for going was to see some kangaroos that live on the island (well they are fenced in so don't really have a choice). They are western grey kangaroos so are smaller than their red cousins, most standing about 4ft tall, but still tall enough to make me wary, they looked as though their kick could do some damage. Luckily for us they were quite friendly and we were able to stroke them and get some good pictures.
Only other thing I have to report is I've picked up a spot of man flu, well a cough to be precise. A bug is making its way round the hostel, which is bound to happen given the shared kitchen utensils, dorm rooms and air con. I also feel dorm living is taking a bit of a toll on my health, it has been a good few weeks since I slept through a whole night without being woken by some one/thing, whether that being people snoring (like the bloke sleeping above me last night), people coming in and out the room, some bright spark packing his bag in the middle of the room at 5am, or the best one: a couple deciding to 'practice making babies' in the bunk above me in the early hours of the morning. But hey ho I suppose that's hostel life.
